The Jacob Cotner Jr. House at 140 Virginia Park Street, built 1895-1896, was designed by Baxter & Hill in the Queen Anne/Colonial Revival style. Cotner was secretary-treasurer of the Collector Publishing Company and a member of the Detroit Board of Commerce. The two-and-a-half-story red brick house combines brick, wood, and slate in a refined, asymmetrical design, featuring a two-story bay window, an open porch with paired Ionic columns, and a richly detailed central gable with arched windows and decorative brickwork. The house is part of the Virginia Park Historic District.
