Built in 1903 at a cost of $10,000, the Hugh Wallace House was designed by Stevens & Blume in the Colonial Revival style. Wallace, the home's first resident, was founder and owner of the Hugh Wallace Robe Company. He also served as vice president of the Berlin Robe and Clothing Company of Berlin, Canada, and the Citizens' Savings Bank of Detroit.

The two-and-a-half-story brick residence features a symmetrical façade with wood and stone trim, a modillioned cornice, gabled dormers, and a prominent central bay. Colonial-inspired details include the window surrounds, quoins, and a broken segmental pediment with an urn above the second-story window. A side porch and two-story wing extend from the east and west sides of the house.
