Built in 1902–1903, the house at 90 Virginia Park was designed by Joseph Mills & Sons for Albert T. Knowlson, founder and president of the A. T. Knowlson Company, a prominent Detroit wholesaler of electrical supplies. Knowlson came to Detroit in 1890 and is credited with introducing the Welsbach incandescent gas lamp to Detroit. His company later expanded into electrical supplies and became a major wholesale dealer.

The square red-brick residence features a hipped roof with dormers and a broad front porch. Leaded-glass windows, an oriel window, decorative cornice, and overhanging eaves give the house distinctive Elizabethan Revival character.
