Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Alwyne Lane Apartments

Built in 1926, the Alwyne Lane Apartments at 843 Whitmore Drive are one of the many distinguished apartment buildings that define Detroit's historic Palmer Park neighborhood. Designed by prominent Detroit architect Robert J. West, the four-story building showcases elegant Beaux-Arts architecture, featuring a brick façade accented by arched windows, decorative balconies, and classical detailing. The building once contained 29 apartment units and encompasses more than 31,000 square feet. Like many buildings in the neighborhood, the Alwyne Lane Apartments eventually fell victim to decades of disinvestment and has been standing vacant for many years.
