Opened in 1928, the nine-story Chatsworth Tower Apartments sit at 630 Merrick Street on Wayne State University’s campus. Originally owned by Otto Wismer, the university purchased the building in 1961 after a decade of negotiations.

Initially reserved for faculty, it later opened to graduate students and now houses upper-level undergrads, grads, and some faculty. Thanks to advocacy by Preservation Wayne, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
