Designed by Charles Noble and built in 1936 at the corner of Elizabeth and Woodward, Elwood Bar & Grill is a classic example of Streamline Moderne architecture. Named after its intersecting streets, the bar features sleek, curved lines typical of the Art Deco era.
In the 1980s, Chuck Forbes purchased the building, and when Comerica Park’s construction in 1997 threatened its demolition, the Forbes family relocated it to East Adams Street, preserving its historic charm at their own expense.
