Historic Detroit

Every building in Detroit has a story — we're here to share it

Frederick W. Sanders House

Designed by Bloodgood Tuttle for Frederick W. Sanders Jr. in 1922.

His father, Frederick W. Sanders Sr., set up his first soda fountain in a little store at Woodward Avenue and State Street in 1875. He passed away in 1913.

50 years later, the 9th Sanders store opened on West Fort Street with their complete line of Sanders candies, ice creams, and baked goods.
