Grace Protestant Episcopal Church, commonly known as Grace Church in its early days, was built between 1868 and 1870 on the northeast corner of Second and Fort streets.
The cornerstone laid on Nov. 16, 1868, and the church was dedicated on Dec. 21, 1870, when it opened at 10 a.m. for public worship and appropriate services.
The site has been a parking lot for decades.
