Located on Central Avenue at Picnic Way on Belle Isle, this monument was erected to honor the more than 2,000 volunteers from Wayne County who served in the Spanish-American War (1898), the Philippine-American War and the China Relief Expedition (Boxer Rebellion).
The two sculptures by Allen G. Newman represent the Army and Navy servicemen from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The monument was dedicated on June 12, 1932.
