Vanity Ballroom - Interior photos (2023)
Vanity Ballroom

By 2023, the lack of a roof had let Mother Nature eat away at the paint, plaster, wood and pretty much everything else.

Some of the ornate plasterwork in the Vanity has managed to dodge snow and rain, but as this photo from April 2023 shows, water has been licking away at the plaster over its decades of abandonment.

By April 2023, the roof of the Vanity Ballroom was more of giant skylight - so bad, you almost couldn't call it a roof. The wooden dance floor under it has, unsurprisingly, been completely rotted away and is unsafe to walk on.

Though much of the Vanity's Aztec or Mayan plasterwork has been lost to vandals, thieves and the elements, hints of its beauty and grandeur still were hanging on as of April 2023.

Some of the once ornately painted plasterwork had been licked clean of every drop of color by April 2023 as Mother Nature was allowed to run wild following a massive roof failure.

By April 2023, hopes for restoring the Vanity Ballroom were running low, even among devoted preservationists.

If there is any hope of saving what's left of the Vanity, the surviving architectural details will not to be protected or removed and preserved before Mother Nature finishes what she started.
